A Pyu Saw Htee member named Aye Kyaw Myint, residing in Thayarwa village of Thayekone Township, was killed during an arrest operation when he attempted to steal a weapon and flee, according to an official from the Paungkaung Township People’s Defense Force. The incident began on May 18 when the Paungkaung Township People’s Defense Force successfully captured Aye Kyaw Myint alive at a location near the entrance of Thayarwa village in Thayekone Township. During initial interrogation by revolutionary forces, Aye Kyaw Myint admitted to attending the Pyu Saw Htee Training Course No. 1 at Division 66 in Inn Ma Town, Thayekone Township, on January 1, 2024.
Further investigation revealed that Aye Kyaw Myint had been working as a gate guard at Shwekhopin Village checkpoint in Thayekone Township, earning 6,800 kyats per day. He had been posing as a dynamo engine buyer while gathering intelligence on PDF and People’s Defense Force movements and activities, which he then reported to the terrorist military. Officials also discovered evidence on his mobile phone showing his active participation in military training programs. The investigation confirmed his role as an informant who had been collecting and transmitting information about revolutionary forces to the military council.
The situation escalated on May 24 at approximately 1:30 PM when, during a follow-up interrogation by revolutionary forces, Aye Kyaw Myint suddenly seized a small firearm and attempted to escape, firing at resistance members in the process. During the ensuing pursuit and exchange of fire by revolutionary forces, he was killed. This incident represents another consequence of the military council’s forced recruitment practices and is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the military’s intelligence networks. The case highlights the continuing struggle between revolutionary forces and military informants who operate within civilian areas.
