The leader of Pyu Saw Htee, Kyaw San Win (aka Nga Chun), who was responsible for forcibly recruiting young people for military service in Kyaukpadaung Township, Mandalay Region, was killed in an attack by revolutionary forces. The incident occurred on March 10 in the evening when he was returning from Infantry Battalion 78 based in Popa. According to members of the Popa Production & Guerilla Force (PPGF), the attack was carried out in response to his activities of forced recruitment, extortion, and informing on revolutionary supporters to the military.
Kyaw San Win had been actively involved in forcing local youth into military service, collecting unauthorized electricity fees from villages, and reporting revolutionary forces and their associates to the military council. After the attack, revolutionary forces recovered his national identification card and driver’s license from his possession. His activities had caused significant distress among local communities, particularly through his role in forced recruitment for the military council. The PPGF forces had been monitoring his movements and conducted the attack when he was returning from Infantry Battalion 78.
The revolutionary forces confirmed that they successfully carried out the operation without any casualties on their side and were able to withdraw safely after the attack. This incident serves as a warning to those collaborating with the military council and demonstrates the resistance’s commitment to protecting civilians from military council oppression. The attack was specifically targeted due to Kyaw San Win’s actions that directly harmed local communities, including his role in forced recruitment, extortion of funds from villages, and activities that compromised the safety of revolutionary supporters in the area. The successful operation by PPGF forces highlights the growing resistance against military council collaborators who participate in the oppression of local populations.
