The People’s Defense Force in Hta Gon Township has announced that Kyaw May, a Pyu Saw Htee leader from Myingyadoe village, was killed during an attempt to escape after his initial capture. According to the statement, Kyaw May was successfully captured alive on August 1 by revolutionary forces of the Hta Gon Township People’s Defense Force. However, during interrogation, he attempted to resist and flee, leading to his death during the subsequent pursuit and capture operation.
Kyaw May served as a deputy to Win Myint, the leader of the Pyu Saw Htee group in Myingyadoe village. He was known for committing various crimes against local civilians in the southern areas of Hta Gon Township. These crimes included murder, house burning, illegal toll collection, forced military service fees collection, and creating divisions among community members. The People’s Defense Force reported that while no weapons or ammunition were seized from Kyaw May, they obtained significant intelligence about Pyu Saw Htee operations in the area.
The Pyu Saw Htee group operates as an armed organization under the military council’s village administration system and has been responsible for numerous acts of violence against local civilians. The capture and subsequent death of a Pyu Saw Htee leader represents a significant development in the ongoing struggle for justice in the region. However, the group’s leader Win Myint and other members remain at large, continuing to pose a challenge to law and order in the area. The People’s Defense Force’s operation against Kyaw May demonstrates the ongoing efforts to protect civilians from military council-affiliated armed groups that have been terrorizing local communities through violence, extortion, and other forms of oppression.
