A significant military engagement in Sagaing Region on April 20 resulted in the death of seven members of the Pyu Saw Htee group, including their leader Nay Lin (also known as Yay Baw Gyi), according to resistance forces. The incident occurred when revolutionary forces attacked a vehicle carrying Pyu Saw Htee members who were returning intoxicated from a birthday celebration in Sagaing city to the Mingun area. The attack took place at a location near Mingun, targeting the group who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.
During the attack, Pyu Saw Htee leader Nay Lin and six other members were killed, while only two passengers in the vehicle managed to escape. Following the engagement, resistance forces destroyed the vehicle used by the Pyu Saw Htee group by setting it on fire. The deceased leader, Nay Lin, was identified as a direct disciple of Shwe Kyar and had succeeded him in leadership. He was also serving as the leader of the Pyu Saw Htee group under the guidance of monk U Waypulla.
In the aftermath of the attack, military reinforcements arrived at the scene, including two vehicles from the Mingun area and three from Sagaing city. However, the resistance forces were unable to complete their operation due to weapons malfunctions. The following day, on April 22, when resistance forces conducted a clearing operation at the attack site, they recovered various weapons including one G3 rifle, two hand grenades, two 40mm shells, and some ammunition.
The operation was carried out through coordination between the Unicorn Guerrilla Force, Mingun PDF, and Township PDF forces, as confirmed by a responsible official from the Unicorn Guerrilla Force. This incident represents a significant operational success for local resistance forces and has notably impacted the strength of the Pyu Saw Htee group, which is known for its allegiance to the military council. The attack has dealt a considerable blow to the military-backed organization’s leadership structure and operational capabilities in the region.
