Campaign leaders are calling for public participation in a signature campaign demanding the immediate cessation of activities by French aviation company Airbus that fuel the Myanmar military junta’s violence. The company is accused of directly supporting war crimes committed by the Myanmar military junta through their investments. Justice For Myanmar (JFM), a human rights organization focused on Myanmar issues, has revealed that AVIC, a Chinese state-owned corporation maintaining close business ties with Airbus, has been supplying military aircraft including the Y-12 and other combat aircraft being used in the junta’s airstrikes.
AVIC Corporation not only provides aircraft and aviation weapons systems and technology to the military junta but also performs aircraft maintenance services. JFM points out that if Airbus were to halt such violence-supporting operations, it would significantly reduce the junta’s capacity for aerial attacks and other violent actions. The campaign leaders emphasize that there is a crucial need for unified public condemnation of Airbus’s involvement in war crimes at this time, and they strongly encourage everyone to participate in this campaign.
The campaign organizers have created an online link for signatures, noting that individuals can participate with just one minute of their time. Such signature campaigns are believed to be an effective method for exposing and condemning international corporations’ collaboration with the Myanmar military junta, with the campaign leaders emphasizing that greater public participation leads to increased effectiveness. The initiative represents a coordinated effort to pressure Airbus to sever its indirect support of the military regime’s operations through its business relationships, particularly focusing on the connection with AVIC and its role in supplying military aviation capabilities to the junta.
