On June 3, public protest groups in the Letpadaung region led a mass demonstration against the military dictatorship. The protesters called for the implementation of Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO), aiming to draw global attention to the life-threatening conditions faced by civilians under military rule. The Letpadaung public protest groups, together with local residents, carried signs reading ‘Vote ILO Article 33 to save LIVES’ while chanting anti-dictatorship slogans.
The Letpadaung region has been experiencing continuous military oppression since the coup. Local residents face arbitrary arrests, torture, property confiscation, and forced military conscription by the military forces. This call for the implementation of ILO Article 33 against Myanmar’s military council represents a crucial demand for the safety and security of civilians who continue to live under the military dictatorship. The protest highlights the urgent need for international intervention to protect the lives, properties, and basic rights of the people who have been suffering under the oppressive military regime.
