On February 28, residents of Hpakant city in Kachin State held a public protest against the military dictatorship and organized a rally supporting the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), People’s Defense Force (PDF), and National Unity Government (NUG). The people of Hpakant offered prayers for the success of revolutionary forces in the ongoing battles across Kachin State.
Protesters in the demonstration march chanted slogans demanding the immediate fall of the military dictatorship system, the complete elimination of the fascist military, opposition to the military that burns and kills innocent civilians, and calling for united participation of all people for the swift victory of the Spring Revolution. Additionally, they demanded action against the military council under Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Hpakant is a significant city in Kachin State, currently experiencing intense fighting between revolutionary forces and military council troops. Local civilians are risking their safety to demonstrate for the end of the military dictatorship and the establishment of democracy. Despite the military council’s brutal suppression, arrests, detentions, and killings, the revolutionary spirit of the people continues to strengthen and grow more resilient.
