On May 26, a public movement was organized in a village in Kalay city by the Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee and Kalay Main Strike Force, calling for action against the violent military council under Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO). This movement was conducted under the demand ‘ILO implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025’.
Article 33 of the ILO is a provision that enables member states to take action against labor rights violations. The public movement calls for international action due to the military council’s ongoing forced labor practices and military conscription of Myanmar civilians. During the movement, local residents peacefully demonstrated while holding protest posters expressing their demands.
The Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee and Main Strike Force have been actively involved in opposing the military council’s oppression. Such public movements aim to bring international attention to the military council’s human rights violations and encourage effective action from the international community. The peaceful demonstration represents the continued resistance against the military council’s forced labor practices and other human rights violations, seeking intervention through international mechanisms like the ILO.
