A public demonstration was held in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, on March 13, calling for the implementation of Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Myanmar. The movement was led by the Yinmabin North Point of No Return Democracy Revolution Strike Column, aimed at opposing the military dictatorship and protecting workers’ rights. The demonstration was organized under the banner ‘ILO Implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025’.
This movement seeks to draw global attention to the deteriorating labor rights situation in Myanmar following the military coup. ILO Article 33 provides a mechanism for member states to take economic measures against countries that violate workers’ rights. Currently in Myanmar, fundamental labor rights such as the freedom of association, collective bargaining, and the right to strike have been severely curtailed. Workers face increasing restrictions and violations of their basic rights under military rule, with trade unions being effectively banned and labor activists facing persecution.
The Yinmabin North Point of No Return Democracy Revolution Strike Column continues to conduct anti-dictatorship activities with strong support from local residents. Their peaceful demonstrations represent the voice of Myanmar’s people who are suffering under military rule, calling for effective action from the international community. The protest specifically focuses on urging the international labor body to take stronger measures against the military regime, which has systematically dismantled worker protections and labor rights mechanisms that had been built up over the previous decade of democratic transition.
