A public movement was held in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, on March 12, calling for the implementation of Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Myanmar. The event was organized by the Northern Yinmabin Never Return Spring Revolution Strike Column as a public protest against the military dictatorship. The demonstration was conducted under the banner ‘ILO Implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025’.
During the public movement, local residents highlighted the violations of workers’ rights, forced labor practices, and the loss of fundamental rights of working people under the military regime. Article 33 of the ILO is a crucial provision that allows for effective measures to be taken against member states that severely violate workers’ rights. The demonstration emphasized the urgent need for international action through the ILO’s mechanisms to address the deteriorating labor conditions in Myanmar.
In current-day Myanmar, the military junta continues to commit human rights violations, including forcing civilians into military service, confiscating public property, suppressing labor unions, and subjecting political prisoners to forced labor. The protesters demanded that the ILO take effective action against Myanmar by implementing Article 33, which would enable stronger international measures to address these systematic violations of workers’ rights and human rights. The public movement in Yinmabin represents the ongoing resistance against the military regime’s oppression and the people’s call for international intervention to protect their basic rights and freedoms.
