
A public movement was held at an IDP camp in Salingyi Township to commemorate the 80th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The event was organized by the Chindwin River Bank Strike Committee and was attended by internally displaced persons and local residents. The gathering demonstrated their respect and support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi through various symbolic activities.
Participants wore blue armbands symbolizing peace and carried roses during the event. The ceremony included cutting a birthday cake and offering collective prayers for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s health, happiness, and freedom. Despite being forced to flee their homes and take shelter in the IDP camp, the displaced people showed their unwavering loyalty to the democratic leader through this commemoration.
Salingyi region has become an area where many local residents have been forced to flee due to the military council’s offensive operations. However, the people continue to stand for democracy and resist the military dictatorship through various means. Participants expressed that commemorating Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday in this manner is part of their broader democratic movement. Despite the challenging circumstances of living in displacement, the people demonstrated their commitment to democratic values and their opposition to military rule through this peaceful gathering.
