A public movement calling for the implementation of ILO Article 33 was conducted in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, on March 8, led by the Northern No-Return Revolutionary Strike Column. The movement took the form of a public protest against the military dictatorship and received strong support from local residents. The strike column marched through the city streets demonstrating against the military regime.
ILO Article 33 is an action mechanism of the International Labour Organization aimed at preventing and eliminating forced labor. The current public movement was organized in response to the military council’s ongoing practices of forced military conscription and forced labor across Myanmar. Participants in the strike column demanded an immediate end to the military council’s human rights violations and called for the swift implementation of ILO Article 33.
Yinmabin Township continues to face oppression from the military council, with local residents enduring violence, arbitrary arrests, and economic pressure from the regime. However, people continue their struggle for rights through peaceful protests. This movement remains an integral part of the Myanmar people’s fight for democracy, demonstrating their ongoing resistance against military rule through non-violent means, despite facing severe restrictions and threats to their safety.
