A public movement calling for the implementation of International Labour Organization (ILO) Article 33 on Myanmar was held in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, on March 8. The event was organized by the Northern No-Return Revolutionary Strike Column as an anti-military dictatorship public protest. The movement highlighted the ongoing labor rights violations, forced labor practices, and the loss of fundamental workers’ rights under the military regime.
The public movement specifically focused on drawing attention to the severe violations of labor rights occurring under military rule. Article 33 of the ILO Constitution provides mechanisms for member states to take action against countries that fail to comply with labor standards and recommendations. The protesters emphasized the urgent need for international intervention to address the deteriorating labor conditions in Myanmar.
Under the current military regime in Myanmar, there have been widespread reports of forced military conscription, forced labor, and systematic suppression of labor unions and labor rights activists. The military council continues to violate fundamental worker rights and freedoms, making it crucial for the international community to take effective action through mechanisms such as ILO Article 33. The public movement in Yinmabin represents the local population’s demand for concrete international action to address these systematic violations of labor rights and human dignity under military rule.
