According to reports from Yangon, revolutionary citizens and the Youth Power Strike Column jointly organized a public movement today, July 7, in a village within Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region, to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the historic 7th July incident and to oppose the military dictatorship. The 7th July incident represents a significant public uprising in Myanmar’s history and marks a day when students and civilians shed their blood in resistance against the military dictatorship system.
During this year’s commemorative event, revolutionary citizens and members of the Youth Power Strike Column marched while carrying photographs of martyred leaders and displaying anti-military dictatorship banners and placards. They also chanted slogans against the military dictatorship system with loud voices. This movement not only helped boost the morale of people who are currently resisting against the military coup group but also demonstrated the historical significance of this important incident.
The 7th July incident occurred in 1962 during the Revolutionary Council government led by General Ne Win, when students and civilians protested against the destruction of the Rangoon University Students’ Union building. The protest was met with violent suppression, resulting in the deaths of many students and civilians. This day is recorded as a significant date in Myanmar’s history. The commemoration of this historic event continues to serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against military rule and the importance of standing united against oppression.
