On July 18, the Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee organized a public education strike column and mass movement in Kalay, Sagaing Region. Local residents, students, teachers, and youth participated in the peaceful march under the slogan ‘Never Fold the Flag, Never Silent the Voice.’ The demonstration highlighted the deteriorating state of education under military rule and expressed solidarity with the broader resistance movement.
This movement not only protests against the destruction of the education sector under the military dictatorship but also demonstrates the loss of security and rights that civilians face under military oppression. The Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee continues to organize anti-dictatorship activities alongside local residents, maintaining consistent resistance against the military council’s rule.
Participants in the public education strike column expressed their support for the National Unity Government’s (NUG) public education system while rejecting the military council’s education system. They also showed solidarity with revolutionary forces fighting to eliminate the military dictatorship and demanded the release of all political prisoners detained by the military council. The peaceful demonstration represents the ongoing resistance of Kalay residents against military rule and their commitment to restoring civilian governance and educational freedom.
