
A protest march was held in Seoul, South Korea, on June 15 to commemorate the 80th birthday of Myanmar’s democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, while also demanding the release of political prisoners and opposing military rule. The event, organized by the Anti-Military Dictatorship Committee, drew approximately 300 participants from various organizations, including Myanmar citizens and democracy activists. The demonstrators marched from Bosingak Park in central Seoul to Myeongdong Station, expressing their solidarity with Myanmar’s democracy movement.
U Yan Naing Tun, the Myanmar representative to South Korea from the National Unity Government, attended the protest and delivered a speech encouraging continued unity in the revolutionary struggle. He also offered birthday wishes for Aung San Suu Kyi and emphasized the importance of maintaining pressure against the military regime. The NLD-OC Korea branch read out the National League for Democracy’s appeal to citizens, which had been recently issued by the party.
The protesters called for the immediate release of all political prisoners detained under the military regime and urged the international community to increase their support for the Myanmar people’s struggle for democracy. The demonstration highlighted the ongoing resistance against military rule and the continued imprisonment of civilian leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi. Participants emphasized the need for greater international attention and support for Myanmar’s democratic movement, while expressing their commitment to continue peaceful resistance until democracy is restored in Myanmar.
