Revolutionary groups in Yangon have conducted a campaign posting arrest warrant images of military leader Min Aung Hlaing and Russian President Vladimir Putin throughout the city. This activity was led by four allied Yangon revolutionary organizations – the Linn Yaung Ni Youth Organization, Mayangone Democratic Front, Kyimyindaing Networks, and Owl Community. The campaign aimed to demonstrate the parallel struggles of Myanmar and Ukrainian people against military dictatorships and to call for international solidarity in combating authoritarian regimes.
Since the military coup in 2021, the Myanmar military council has continuously perpetrated violence against civilians, while the Russian military has been committing atrocities against innocent civilians in Ukraine since the beginning of its invasion. As a result, the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for the leaders of both countries. This campaign in Yangon serves as a call for unity among city residents in their fight against military dictatorship and emphasizes the importance of collective resistance against authoritarian systems.
The four allied Yangon revolutionary groups posted the arrest warrant images along with posters featuring Ukrainian flag colors in crowded areas, neighborhoods, and major streets throughout the city. Despite the risks of arrest by military council security forces, this peaceful civilian demonstration successfully illustrated that the fight against military dictatorship is a global struggle. The campaign highlighted the solidarity between the people of Myanmar and Ukraine in their respective struggles for democracy and freedom from military oppression.
