Revolutionary groups in Yangon have conducted a coordinated campaign posting warrant images of military leader Min Aung Hlaing and Russian President Vladimir Putin throughout the city. This action was carried out as a demonstration of solidarity between the Ukrainian cause and the Myanmar people’s revolution. The activity took place on March 9th and was led by organizations known collectively as the Yangon 4 Brothers (Y4B), showcasing the ongoing resistance against both the Myanmar military council and its international supporters.
The participating organizations in the Yangon 4 Brothers include the Linn Yaung Ni Youth Organization (LYNYO), Mayangone Democratic Front (MDF), Kyimyindaing Networks (KMD18), and the Owl Community. These groups strategically posted the warrant images at key locations throughout Yangon, emphasizing the parallel struggles faced by both Myanmar and Ukraine. The action specifically highlighted the International Criminal Court’s warrants and demonstrated support for international legal actions against both leaders. This coordinated effort represents a significant statement against the ongoing cooperation between the Myanmar military council and Russia.
This protest action carries multiple layers of significance, serving as both a criticism of the Myanmar military council’s relationship with Russia and a show of solidarity with Ukraine’s struggle. The military council has been purchasing weapons and ammunition from Russia, while Russia continues to provide political support to the regime. By posting these warrant images, the revolutionary groups have made a clear statement opposing this relationship. Furthermore, the action symbolizes how the people of Myanmar, like the Ukrainian people, are fighting for freedom and democracy against authoritarian forces. The protest also demonstrates the Myanmar people’s awareness and engagement with international justice mechanisms, showing support for legal actions against leaders who commit crimes against their own people.
