A pregnant woman was killed instantly when the military council conducted an aerial bombing using a Y-12 aircraft on North Kammarok village in Kawkareik Township, Karen State, during the Thingyan Water Festival on April 16. According to an official from the Mon Liberation Army, the attack occurred around 12:40 PM, resulting in the immediate death of Ma Hnin Oo, a 37-year-old pregnant woman who was near her due date. The aerial strike hit her in the back while she was carrying her three-year-old child.
The attack also resulted in injuries to four other civilians, including two children. The injured victims were identified as U Phoe Kyaw, U Pan Thwin, 7-year-old Thet Poe Lay, and 9-year-old Thet Myat Noe. According to the Mon Liberation Army official, their injuries were not life-threatening. The young girl who was injured by the explosion has since recovered, and the other victims’ conditions are stable. The tragic incident claimed the life of Ma Hnin Oo, who was just days away from giving birth. While she was holding her three-year-old son at the time of the attack, the child miraculously escaped injury, but the unborn baby did not survive.
The Mon Liberation Army official has warned that the military council continues to conduct attacks using heavy weapons and aircraft in the area. Local residents are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed about military movements in the region. The official emphasized the importance of civilians being cautious and paying attention to military news for their safety, as the terrorist military council continues its offensive operations in the area. This incident represents another tragic example of civilian casualties resulting from the military council’s ongoing campaign of violence against its own people, particularly affecting vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children in conflict areas.
