A special prayer ceremony was held at the Peace Pagoda in Gotenba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, for the release of Myanmar’s democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners. The event was organized by the League for Democracy in Burma (LDB Japan), with the participation of U Saw Ba La Thein, the National Unity Government’s representative to Japan, along with representatives from various democratic organizations.
During the ceremony, the attending representatives discussed the current situation in Myanmar, the hardships faced by people under military dictatorship, and the conditions of political prisoners. They collectively prayed for the swift release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners, as well as the restoration of genuine democracy in Myanmar. The ceremony also included prayers for the immediate cessation of ongoing conflicts within Myanmar and the success of peace processes.
Myanmar citizens and democracy activists in Japan continue to work tirelessly for Myanmar’s democratic cause and are striving to bring increased international attention to the situation in Myanmar. The prayer ceremony at the Peace Pagoda serves as both a demonstration of commitment to Myanmar’s peace and democracy and a message to the international community. The event reflects the ongoing efforts of the Myanmar diaspora in Japan to maintain focus on the struggle for democracy in their homeland while seeking support from the international community for the restoration of civilian rule in Myanmar.
