
On March 4th at around 7 AM, Police Chief Officer Thein Lwin was fatally shot while sitting at Chanmyae Aung tea shop in Ward 1 of Sinphyukyun town, Salin Township, Magway Region. According to local residents, unidentified armed assailants carried out the attack, killing the police chief instantly and seizing his weapons and ammunition. It was reported that the police chief had been planning to transfer to another location after his daughter’s examinations.
Regarding the attack, some witnesses claimed that a young woman carried out the close-range shooting, while others reported that three men were involved. No organization has officially claimed responsibility for the incident. Following the shooting, on March 5th, military council troops began conducting arrests in the eastern part of Salin Township, using civilian vehicles to move through the area and detain young people.
Among those arrested were young farmers working in their fields and some women, as confirmed by local residents. The military council forces have been carrying out oppressive actions against local civilians in connection with the police chief’s death, conducting arbitrary arrests of innocent people. Local residents are living in fear due to the military’s activities, with some fleeing their homes to avoid potential arrest. The situation has created an atmosphere of terror and uncertainty in the area, as the military council continues its pattern of targeting civilians in response to resistance activities.
