
A police station chief from Tanyaung district in Salin Township, Magway Region, has defected to the people’s side, no longer wishing to serve under the violent military council, according to a representative from the Salin Township People’s Defense Force. The Deputy Police Major made contact with the Salin Township People’s Defense Force and defected on the evening of June 15. Prior to his defection, he had served as Deputy Township Officer at the Salin Township office for approximately two years.
The officer, who had been transferred to serve as the Tanyaung district police station chief in early June this year, chose to join the people’s side in opposition to the military council’s violent actions. The Salin Township People’s Defense Force official confirmed that they accepted the defecting Deputy Police Major along with his weapons and ammunition, and provided him with appropriate compensation. They have also called on remaining military and police personnel to join the people’s side in their struggle.
The Salin Township People’s Defense Force has announced that military and police personnel who defect with weapons and ammunition to fight against the violent military council will be awarded appropriate compensation and accepted as members of the people’s side. They have issued statements welcoming those who wish to join the public’s resistance against the military dictatorship, emphasizing the importance of working together with the people to end the military’s authoritarian rule.
