A complaint has emerged regarding the unfair distribution of lottery winnings at the Sharkhe Police Outpost in Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region. The case involves a lottery ticket jointly purchased by nine police officers that won a prize of 5000 lakhs, after which Police Sub-Inspector Myo Min Oo allegedly distributed the winnings unfairly, leading to a formal complaint being filed with both township and district police headquarters.
The police officers stationed at Sharkhe Police Outpost include Police Corporal Thet Oo, Police Lance Corporal Yan Naing Kyaw, Police Constable Yan Naing Soe, Police Constable Soe Moe Naing, Police Constable Htet Zaw Hein, Police Constable Thike Aung, Police Senior Corporal Than Kyaing, Police Lance Corporal Yan Naing Soe, and Police Sub-Inspector Myo Min Oo. They regularly participated in a monthly lottery purchase program as part of a welfare fund initiative from the Township Police Force Office, contributing 40,000 kyats monthly for lottery tickets. However, while eight members contributed their share of the lottery ticket costs, Police Sub-Inspector Myo Min Oo did not make any contributions.
On November 1, 2024, during the 68th lottery drawing, one of their 30 lottery tickets bearing the number Nga-543140 won the grand prize of 5000 lakhs. When the eight police officers approached Police Sub-Inspector Myo Min Oo about the winning ticket, he initially claimed sole ownership of the ticket and refused to share the prize money. When he went to Yangon to collect the winnings, he discovered he couldn’t withdraw the money alone since it was a group purchase.
Subsequently, Police Sub-Inspector Myo Min Oo promised to distribute the winnings proportionally and requested authorization letters from the eight winning officers via Viber to facilitate the prize collection. However, after receiving the money, he only gave 500 lakhs to one Senior Police Corporal while distributing just 195 lakhs each to the remaining seven officers, creating a significant disparity in the distribution of the winnings.
Dissatisfied with this unequal distribution, the police officers demanded fair allocation of the prize money from Police Sub-Inspector Myo Min Oo. When he refused and challenged them to file complaints wherever they wished, the officers reported the matter to Police Major Than Kyaw Htay at the Township Police Force Office. However, as of now, no action has been taken to resolve the situation or address the unfair distribution of the lottery winnings.
