A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, escaped an ambush while collecting extortion money, but his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township, Pyay District. The ambush was carried out by members of the 3601 Battalion, Unit 5 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force. Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and fled after spotting resistance fighters from a distance. Although the revolutionary forces opened fire, he managed to escape unharmed by jumping into an irrigation canal.
During the incident, resistance forces seized several items from Police Corporal Thein Lwin, including one motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, one pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, a motorcycle registration book, police ID card, motorcycle driving license, and various documents. According to the intelligence and information officer of the 3601 Battalion, Police Corporal Thein Lwin has been identified as an oppressor of local civilians in the Myatdaing police station jurisdiction.
The police corporal has been involved in forced recruitment of civilians for military service and extorting money from wealthy residents through arbitrary arrests and detention. His acts of torture and abuse have reportedly resulted in deaths and imprisonments among local civilians. The intelligence and information officer of the 3601 Battalion People’s Defense Force, known as Shadow, has urged members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible. This incident highlights the ongoing conflict between resistance forces and military-affiliated security forces in Myanmar, where civilians continue to face oppression and violence from authorities aligned with the military council.
