A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at around 3:30 PM when members of Battalion 3601’s Company 5 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force ambushed Police Corporal Thein Lwin between Thame and Kontha villages.
According to reports, Police Corporal Thein Lwin spotted the resistance members from a distance and abandoned his motorcycle before fleeing. Despite being fired upon by revolutionary forces, he managed to escape by jumping into an irrigation canal. The resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration documents, police ID card, driving license, and other documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been known for forcing local residents into military service, extorting money from wealthy civilians through arrests, and conducting torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments. In light of these events, Shadow, the intelligence and information officer of Battalion 3601, urged members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as part of the revolution.
