
A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at around 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township. The attack was carried out by Battalion 5 of the People’s Defense Force Battalion 3601, as confirmed by the battalion’s intelligence and information officer.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and jumped into an embankment after spotting resistance forces from a distance. Although the PDF forces opened fire, he escaped without injury. The items seized from the fleeing police corporal included one motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, one pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, a motorcycle license, police ID card, driver’s license, and other documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station has been identified as an oppressor of local civilians, forcing young people from villages into military service, extorting money from wealthy families, and conducting arrests and torture that have resulted in deaths and imprisonments, according to local residents. The People’s Defense Force has called on members of the military council’s forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violence against civilians and defect to the people’s side.
