
A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM when members of the People’s Defense Force Battalion 3601 Company 5 ambushed Police Corporal Thein Lwin between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin spotted the resistance fighters from a distance and abandoned his motorcycle before jumping into an irrigation canal to escape. Although the revolutionary forces opened fire, he managed to escape without injuries. During the incident, the resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration, police ID card, driver’s license, and other documents.
According to local sources, Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been involved in forced recruitment of soldiers from local civilians, extorting money from wealthy families through arrests, and torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments. The People’s Defense Force has urged members of the military council forces, police force, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent acts and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
