A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages, where members of Battalion 5 of the 3601 People’s Defense Force (PDF) launched an ambush operation. Police Corporal Thein Lwin spotted the PDF members from a distance and abandoned his motorcycle before fleeing. Despite resistance forces opening fire, he escaped by jumping into an irrigation canal.
During the operation, resistance forces seized several items from Police Corporal Thein Lwin, including one motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, one pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, a motorcycle registration book, police ID card, motorcycle driving license, and various documents. According to Shadow, the intelligence and information officer of the 3601 Battalion of Pyay District People’s Defense Force, the police corporal had been involved in numerous acts of oppression against local civilians.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been responsible for forced recruitment of civilians into military service, extorting money from wealthy residents through arbitrary arrests, and conducting torture sessions that resulted in deaths and imprisonments. The 3601 Battalion has called on members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia members to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible. The resistance forces continue to emphasize that those serving the military council should abandon their posts and join the democratic forces fighting for the people’s cause.
