A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at around 3:30 PM when members of Battalion 3601’s Company 5 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force ambushed Police Corporal Thein Lwin between Thame and Kontha villages.
Upon spotting the resistance forces from a distance, Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and jumped into an irrigation canal to escape. Although the resistance forces opened fire, he managed to flee without injuries. The resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration documents, police ID card, driver’s license, and other documents.
According to the intelligence and information officer of Battalion 3601, known as Comrade Shadow, Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been involved in forced recruitment of civilians into the military, extorting money from wealthy individuals through arrests, and torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments of local residents. The People’s Defense Force urged members of the military council, police force, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
