A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at around 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages, where members of Battalion 3601’s Company 5 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force conducted the operation.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin spotted the PDF members from a distance and abandoned his motorcycle before fleeing. Despite resistance forces opening fire, he managed to escape by jumping into an irrigation canal. During the incident, the resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration documents, police ID card, driving license, and other documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been known for forcing local residents into military service, extorting money from wealthy civilians through arrests, and conducting torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments. Battalion 3601 has called on members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia members to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
