A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting protection money from locals, though he managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages when members of Battalion 3601’s Company 5 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force launched an ambush operation against Police Corporal Thein Lwin.
Upon spotting the resistance forces from a distance, Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and jumped into a canal to escape. Despite being fired upon by the resistance forces, he managed to escape unharmed. The resistance forces seized several items from the scene, including one motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, one pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, a motorcycle registration book, a police ID card, a motorcycle driving license, and various documents.
According to local sources, Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station had been involved in forced recruitment of civilians into military service, extorting money from wealthy families through arbitrary arrests, and torture that resulted in deaths and imprisonments. The People’s Defense Force has urged members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
