A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting extortion money, managing to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages when members of Battalion 5 of the 3601 People’s Defense Force (PDF) launched an ambush operation against Police Corporal Thein Lwin.
Upon spotting the resistance forces from a distance, Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and escaped by jumping into an irrigation canal. Despite being fired upon by revolutionary forces, he managed to escape unharmed. The resistance forces seized several items from the scene, including one motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, one pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, a motorcycle registration book, police ID card, motorcycle driving license, and various documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station has been known for forcing local civilians into military service, arresting wealthy residents for extortion, and conducting torture that has resulted in deaths and imprisonments. The People’s Defense Force has urged members of the military council forces, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent activities and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
