
A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting extortion money but managed to escape, while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township. The attack was carried out by Battalion 5 of the People’s Defense Force Battalion 3601, as confirmed by the battalion’s intelligence and information officer.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and jumped into an embankment after spotting resistance forces from a distance. Although the forces opened fire, he escaped without injury. However, the resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration documents, police ID card, driver’s license, and other documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin has been known to oppress civilians in villages under Myatdaing police station’s jurisdiction, engaging in forced military recruitment, extorting money from wealthy individuals, and carrying out arbitrary arrests. According to local residents, his acts of torture and abuse have resulted in deaths, and several people have been imprisoned due to his actions. The People’s Defense Force has called on members of the military council’s forces, including soldiers, police, and Pyu Saw Htee militia members, to cease their violent acts against civilians and defect to the people’s side.
