
A police corporal from Myatdaing police station in Paungde Township, Bago Region, was attacked while collecting extortion money, but managed to escape while his belongings were seized by resistance forces. The incident occurred on March 8 at 3:30 PM when members of Battalion 3601, Column 5 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force launched an ambush between Thame and Kontha villages in Paungde Township.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin abandoned his motorcycle and jumped into an embankment after spotting the resistance forces from a distance. Although the revolutionary forces opened fire, he managed to escape unharmed. During the incident, the resistance forces seized his motorcycle, three hand grenades, six rounds of various ammunition, a pair of handcuffs, 130,000 kyats in cash, motorcycle registration book, police ID card, driving license, and other documents.
Police Corporal Thein Lwin from Myatdaing police station has been known for forcing local residents into military service, arresting and extorting money from wealthy civilians, and conducting torture that has resulted in deaths and imprisonments. The Pyay District People’s Defense Force Battalion 3601 has urged members of the military council, police force, and Pyu Saw Htee militia to cease their violent acts and defect to the people’s side as soon as possible.
