A member of the military council’s people’s militia and Ma Ba Tha organization from Ngapali, Thandwe, is planning to organize a protest against the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) at Mahabandoola (Sule) Park in Kyauktada Township, Yangon. The protest organizers are reportedly arranging to pay daily wages to participants. The demonstration was initially planned for July 6 but was not permitted by the Kyauktada Township administration.
According to a source close to Htun Zaw Latt, the people’s militia member organizing the protest, they submitted another application on July 15 and while they haven’t received a response yet, they expect it to be approved. The people’s militia is currently recruiting protesters though facing difficulties in gathering people, and they are planning to offer daily compensation. The Thandwe people’s militia has submitted permission requests to the Kyauktada Township General Administration Department three times since June 10, with the latest application submitted on June 15 after previous attempts were rejected.
The protest demands include expressing opposition to the ULA/AA and requesting military council leader Min Aung Hlaing to eliminate them from Rakhine State. Additionally, they are demanding the arrest of those helping Rakhine war refugees in Yangon, claiming these individuals have direct connections with the ULA/AA. These demands have caused significant concern among war refugees currently residing in Yangon. The protest organizer, Htun Zaw Latt, is from Lintha village in Ngapali Beach, Thandwe, and previously lived at Infantry Battalion 55 in Thandwe before becoming a war refugee in Mayangone Township.
