
A People’s Militia leader named Aye Maung, notorious for extorting money and oppressing civilians in Mon State’s Ye Township, was killed in a shooting at a tea shop, according to the commander of the Ye Bilu Battalion. The incident occurred around 8 AM on April 1st at a tea shop in Kyaung Village. Aye Maung had been known for systematically extorting money and terrorizing local residents since the military coup, establishing himself as an oppressive People’s Militia leader who repeatedly threatened civilians.
According to the Ye Bilu Battalion commander, Aye Maung had been systematically threatening and oppressing local residents through various means. There was a previous attempt to neutralize him in 2023, but he survived with only an arm injury due to wearing protective gear. In this latest operation, fighters from the 2nd Company of the Ye Bilu Battalion successfully carried out the operation at the tea shop where he was present.
Aye Maung was known for summoning village administrators from areas designated as liberated territories by the Ye Bilu group and threatening to burn down villages and launch artillery attacks if they cooperated with the Ye Bilu forces. He systematically extorted money from local residents and used intimidation tactics to extract funds from civilians. After the military coup, he became well-known as a People’s Militia leader who oppressed local communities while operating under the protection of the military council, using his position to systematically harass and exploit civilians in the area.
