According to statements from People’s Defense Forces (PDF), nine members of the military council forces were killed in various clashes across Myanmar on April 11. The casualties were reported during defensive operations by local resistance forces against military council offensives in different regions. The military council continues to commit violence against local civilians while also forcing people into military service through coercive recruitment practices.
While the casualty figures are based on compiled reports from various People’s Defense Forces, it should be noted that independent verification of actual military casualties on the ground has not been possible. The military council typically conceals information about their casualties and restricts media access to conflict areas. Therefore, the actual number of casualties may be higher than what has been reported. The military council’s practice of limiting independent verification and media coverage makes it difficult to confirm the full extent of their losses in these engagements.
The People’s Defense Forces continue to resist the military council’s operations in response to ongoing violence against civilians. The military council has been documented committing various human rights violations, including killing civilians, torture, arbitrary arrests and detention, as well as forced recruitment of young people into their forces. Local populations live in fear of the military council’s oppression, with many being forced to flee their homes for safety. The resistance forces maintain their defensive operations to protect civilians from these ongoing abuses by the military council, which has shown no sign of ceasing its campaign of violence against the Myanmar people.
