According to statements and reports from People’s Defense Forces, six members of the military council forces were killed in clashes across Myanmar on April 16. The People’s Defense Forces from various regions confirmed engagement with military council troops resulting in these casualties. The resistance forces continue their operations against military council troops in response to the ongoing violence and oppression against local civilians.
The military council forces have been forcing civilians into military service, compelling them to attend military training, and coercing them to serve the military council’s interests, resulting in significant violations of civilian rights. Due to the military council’s actions, civilians are living in fear without security for their lives and property. This has prompted the People’s Defense Forces to continue their offensive operations against military council forces to protect civilian populations.
Yangon Modern News Agency notes in their reporting of daily military casualty figures that while they compile information from statements and announcements made by local defense forces, they cannot independently verify the actual casualties on the ground. However, the statements from People’s Defense Forces are considered accurate in their documentation of military council casualties and maintain detailed records of their operations and engagements with military council forces.
