The People’s Defense Forces under the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government have successfully captured Brigadier General Aung Thet Oo, Commander of Division 77, who had fled from the Japanese Cave Camp in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region. The capture was confirmed to have taken place on April 8 when resistance forces surrounded and arrested him on the road between Indaw and Katha towns.
Brigadier General Aung Thet Oo, a graduate of the 42nd intake of the Defense Services Academy, previously served as the Strategic Commander of Kawthaung Military Region with the rank of Colonel before becoming the Commander of Division 77. His capture came after he fled from the Japanese Cave Camp, the last remaining military council stronghold in Indaw Township, on the night of April 7.
The battle for Indaw town was conducted under the command of the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense, Military Region 1, lasting over eight months. During the operation, resistance forces seized significant military equipment including two howitzers, two 120mm weapons, along with various heavy and light weapons and ammunition. The operation involved coordination between the People’s Defense Force, Katha District battalions, special operation forces, local defense forces, the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front, and the Kachin Independence Army. This successful capture represents a significant victory for the resistance forces and marks the complete liberation of Indaw Township from military council control.
