People’s Defense Forces launched a grenade attack on the military council-controlled ward administrator’s office in Ward 141 of Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region. The attack occurred at 10:01 PM on March 8th and was jointly carried out by the Yangon Army (YA) and Western District People’s Defense Force. According to a spokesperson from the Yangon Army, the attack was conducted in response to ongoing oppression and abuse of local residents by the ward administrator and his associates.
Ward administrators under the military council have been implementing the junta’s orders while oppressing civilians. Examples include extorting money from residents, collecting military service registration data, threatening and arresting family members of People’s Defense Force members. For these reasons, People’s Defense Forces have been targeting such military council subordinates. The Yangon Army spokesperson announced that such operations would continue until the terrorist military group is overthrown. The ward administrator and his associates were likely casualties in the attack, and the resistance forces stated they would continue to target similar military council installations until the dictatorship is removed from power.
