The People’s Defense Forces successfully attacked Naypyidaw’s Ela Airport with 107mm rockets, resulting in damage to aircraft hangars and control tower buildings, with six military council soldiers reported injured. The attack took place on April 18 at 8:35 PM, targeting the military council headquarters at Ela Air Base in Naypyidaw. Despite tight security measures and adverse weather conditions, the resistance forces managed to effectively launch three 107mm rockets at the facility.
The attack resulted in the destruction of an aircraft hangar by fire and damage to the security camera control room building, where two soldiers were injured. Additionally, the security post at the runway entrance was hit and destroyed, resulting in injuries to four air force security personnel. This operation was carried out as BWM Mission 33 by the Black Leopard group under the leadership and management of Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM).
Even as civilians in parts of Sagaing, Mandalay, and Bago regions were suffering from the aftermath of the March 28 earthquake, the military council continued its relentless aerial bombardment of civilians across Myanmar, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties. The resistance forces conducted this attack as a new year’s offensive against enemy air power, specifically because the military council continued to use the Ela Airport for attacks against civilians, despite the facility itself having sustained some earthquake damage. The operation demonstrated the resistance forces’ capability to strike strategic military targets despite challenging circumstances and heightened security measures.
