The Yangon Army (YA) and Western District People’s Defense Force jointly carried out an attack using hand grenades on the military council-controlled ward administration office in Ward 141, Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region. The attack occurred at 10:01 PM on March 8, according to a Yangon Army official who confirmed the incident to Yangon Modern News Agency. The operation was conducted in response to continuous oppression of local residents by the ward administrator and his associates.
The responsible official from the Yangon Army stated that the ward administrator and his associates were likely casualties in the attack. He further emphasized that they would continue to target significant military council installations until the fall of the military dictatorship. It has been reported that the military council uses ward administration offices across various townships as instruments of oppression, extortion, and intimidation against civilians, which has prompted such retaliatory actions from People’s Defense Forces.
The People’s Defense Forces are systematically working to dismantle the military council’s administrative mechanisms within Dagon Myothit (South) Township. They have declared their intention to continue removing military council-affiliated organizations and collaborators while maintaining their commitment to protecting the security and rights of the civilian population. This attack represents part of the ongoing resistance against the military council’s oppressive governance structure at the local level, where ward administration offices often serve as extensions of the junta’s control over civilian populations.
