People’s Defense Forces have launched a grenade attack on the military council’s administrative office in Ward 141 of Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region. The attack occurred at 10:01 PM on March 8, carried out through joint operations between the Yangon Army (YA) and the Western District People’s Defense Force. According to a spokesperson from the Yangon Army, the attack was conducted in response to continuous oppression and abuse of local residents by the ward administrator and his associates.
Under the military council’s administrative system, ward administrators have been actively participating in threatening and extorting money from civilians, acting as informants, and conducting arbitrary arrests and detentions. The People’s Defense Forces targeted this administrative office with the specific aim of dismantling the military council’s administrative mechanism. The Yangon Army spokesperson indicated that the ward administrator and his associates were likely casualties in the attack, and such operations would continue until the military dictatorship is overthrown.
Since the military coup, ward administrative offices in Yangon have played a crucial role in the military council’s administrative structure, serving as centers of civilian oppression. As a result, these offices have become primary targets for People’s Defense Forces. These attacks serve to weaken the military council’s administrative capabilities while strengthening public confidence in revolutionary forces. The coordinated attack demonstrates the growing capabilities of resistance forces in urban areas and their commitment to dismantling the military council’s control at the local level.
