The Yangon Army (YA) and Western District People’s Defense Force jointly carried out an attack using hand grenades on the military council’s administrative office in Ward 141, Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region. According to a spokesperson from the Yangon Army, the attack was conducted at 10:01 PM on March 8, specifically targeting the office due to ongoing oppression and abuse of local residents by the ward administrator and his associates under the military council’s authority.
The Yangon Army spokesperson indicated that the ward administrator and his associates were likely casualties in the attack. They further stated that they would continue targeting significant military council installations until the fall of the military dictatorship. The military council has been implementing oppressive administrative mechanisms across various townships, including extortion, violence, forced military service, and other forms of persecution against civilians. As a result, People’s Defense Forces have been targeting these administrative structures of the military council.
Within Dagon Myothit (South) Township, the military council’s administrative bodies have been engaging in various forms of exploitation, including collecting forced donations, extorting money under the guise of neighborhood security, compiling military service registries, and arresting and torturing civilians accused of having connections with People’s Defense Forces. These actions have created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among local residents. Consequently, People’s Defense Forces are working to dismantle the military council’s administrative mechanisms, while also warning civilians against cooperating with these military council-appointed administrators and their associates.
