The Yangon Army (YA) and Western District People’s Defense Force jointly attacked the military council-controlled administrative office in Ward 141 of Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region, with hand grenades. According to a Yangon Army official who spoke to Yangon Modern News Agency, the attack occurred at 10:01 PM on March 8. The operation was carried out in response to continuous oppression of local residents by the ward administrator and his associates who serve under the military council.
The Yangon Army official stated that the ward administrator and his subordinates were likely casualties in the attack. He further declared that they would continue their offensive operations until the complete fall of the military dictatorship. It has been reported that the military council, through their appointed ward administrators across various townships, has been threatening, extorting money from, and arresting and torturing civilians. As a result, People’s Defense Forces have been targeting the military council’s administrative mechanisms.
Local residents have reported that the military council’s administrative bodies in Dagon Myothit (South) Township have been forcibly collecting money from civilians, arresting young people for military recruitment, and threatening and detaining political activists and their family members. Local residents express hope that this attack by the People’s Defense Forces will weaken the military council’s administrative mechanisms and reduce the oppression of civilians in the area.
