People’s Defense Forces conducted an attack on the Talinkon Bridge checkpoint located on the Yangon-Mandalay Highway in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region, resulting in the death of two police officers under the military council’s command, according to a confirmation from a responsible official from Battalion 8 of Myingyan District. The attack occurred around 5 AM on August 5 near Talinkon village at mile marker 288/7. The checkpoint was being operated by 11 police personnel under the military council when it came under attack.
The battle lasted approximately 30 minutes. The location of the attack was only about 10 miles from Meiktila town and approximately 5 miles from the military council’s Command Post 99, making it accessible for rapid military reinforcement. One police officer was killed during the battle, while another died later at the hospital. Due to the checkpoint’s location on the highway, which allowed easy access for military council reinforcements, the People’s Defense Forces were unable to completely capture the checkpoint or seize any weapons. The strategic position of the checkpoint, being on the main highway where the military council could quickly deploy additional forces, prevented the resistance forces from maintaining a prolonged engagement.
The operation was carried out through coordination between Battalion 8 of Myingyan District, Natogyi Regional Defense Force, Battalion 3 of Meiktila District, and the Mahlaing Township People’s Defense Force. After the engagement, all resistance forces successfully withdrew from the area without suffering any casualties. This attack represents part of the ongoing people’s revolution against the military council, as resistance forces continue their efforts to reclaim territories under military control and return them to civilian governance. The coordinated nature of the attack demonstrates the growing cooperation between various resistance groups in their struggle against the military council’s oppressive rule.
