The People’s Defense Force (PDF) Mandalay has called for urgent international action against the military council’s systematic war crimes targeting civilians. In a statement released on April 19, the PDF highlighted the military council’s increasingly intense aerial bombardment of civilian areas, particularly noting that these brutal attacks have continued even during the declared humanitarian ceasefire period intended to help earthquake victims. The statement emphasized the severity of these attacks and their impact on civilian populations.
According to the PDF Mandalay’s statement, between April 1 and April 19, the military council conducted a total of 18 aerial attacks: 13 in Sagaing Township, 4 in Singu Township, and 1 in Mattaya Township. These attacks resulted in 41 civilian casualties and 58 injuries, including 7 children under the age of 18 among the deceased. The bombardments also caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, destroying one school and 54 residential buildings. The PDF emphasized that these attacks demonstrate the military council’s complete disregard for civilian lives and property.
The PDF Mandalay strongly urged neighboring countries such as China, India, and Thailand, global powers including the United States and Russia, as well as international organizations like ASEAN, the European Union, and the United Nations to closely monitor the situation and take necessary action against the military council. The statement particularly emphasized the urgent need for international intervention, noting that despite the National Unity Government’s declaration of a temporary ceasefire to assist earthquake victims, the military council has continued its brutal attacks on civilians. The PDF stressed that immediate international action is crucial to prevent further civilian casualties and protect vulnerable populations from the military council’s ongoing aggression.
