In a confrontation that occurred on the morning of March 19 along the Yangon-Mandalay Highway, five members of the military council forces were killed during an attack at mile marker 319. The attack was carried out by the Natogyi People’s Defence Force and allied groups against a military council patrol convoy. The incident took place when military council forces were conducting patrol operations using one police vehicle and two civilian vehicles.
According to Saya Soe, spokesperson for the Natogyi People’s Defence Force Myingyan District Battalion (4-10), the attack was confirmed to have resulted in at least five casualties among the military council forces. Eyewitnesses reported seeing multiple casualties with severe injuries, and there could potentially be more casualties than the confirmed number. The resistance forces were able to safely withdraw from the area after the successful operation without suffering any casualties.
The operation was a coordinated effort between Myingyan District Battalion No. 4, Myingyan District Battalion No. 10 (Natogyi PDF), and allied forces from the Myittha Township People’s Defence Force. This attack represents ongoing resistance efforts against the military council forces who continue to oppress civilians in the region. The resistance forces maintain their defensive operations in response to the military council’s continued violence and oppression against the local population. The successful coordination between multiple resistance groups demonstrates their growing capability to conduct effective operations against military council forces along major transportation routes.
