A spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force – South Monywa has confirmed that two military council soldiers were killed in a mine attack on security forces stationed along the Monywa-Mandalay road in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region. The attack, which occurred on the evening of August 1st, was aimed at disrupting the military council’s mine-clearing operations in the area. The military convoy, consisting of four civilian vehicles and one 4-wheel drive vehicle, had arrived between Natteikan and Yayporsar villages when they were targeted by PDF forces.
The military council troops had deployed approximately 70 personnel wearing red armbands for security operations when PDF members launched an attack using three Padaytha mines. The attack resulted in the immediate death of two soldiers and left several others injured. Although the military council forces responded with small arms fire, the PDF members were able to withdraw from the area without sustaining any casualties. The operation was carried out by members of the People’s Defense Army, Monywa District Military Command, Strategy 64, and Monywa District Battalion 11.
The PDF has acknowledged the economic hardships faced by civilians due to the military council’s illegal seizure of power. They have appealed to the public for support, particularly in terms of weapons and ammunition needed to completely eliminate the military dictatorship. The resistance forces emphasized their understanding of the people’s economic difficulties while maintaining their commitment to the fight against the military regime. The military council’s forces had parked their vehicles near a monastery in Yayporsar village and were conducting mine-clearing operations on foot when the attack occurred, with one 4-wheel drive vehicle providing security by moving back and forth along the route.
