The Black Leopard Urban Guerrilla group launched an attack on the police station in Yetarshay Township, Bago Region, resulting in the deaths of over thirty military council troops and causing significant damage to the nearby USDP party office. The attack, which occurred in the early morning hours of July 21, involved the firing of fourteen 40mm mortar rounds using a 79-type launcher. The resistance group specifically targeted the police station, which served as a significant military council outpost in the area.
During the attack, all fourteen mortar rounds successfully hit their intended target within the police station compound, leading to the deaths of more than thirty military council personnel. In the aftermath of the attack, additional military forces arrived at the scene, where they implemented a blackout of the police station area and proceeded to remove the deceased soldiers’ bodies using three hearses, operating from the western side of the facility. A representative from the Black Leopard UG confirmed these details, noting that the military council had maintained a substantial presence at this location due to its strategic importance.
The targeted police station was considered a crucial military council position, as it was situated near both the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) office and the Election Commission office. The military council had deployed significant forces to protect these facilities, particularly due to their involvement in electoral activities. During the attack, military council troops attempted to return fire with small arms, though their efforts proved ineffective. While two mortar rounds landed in the detention area of the police station, they reportedly did not detonate.
The Black Leopard Urban Guerrilla group has announced their intention to continue targeting other significant military council positions and infrastructure. However, they have issued a strong warning to civilians to avoid areas near military council installations and strategic points to prevent civilian casualties. These offensive operations are aimed at disrupting the military council’s administrative mechanisms and strengthening the revolutionary forces of the people’s resistance movement. The group emphasized their commitment to conducting precise operations while minimizing risk to civilian populations in their ongoing campaign against military council targets.
